Italian Directional Wave Buoy Network Case Study

Italian Marine users stay informed through use of TRIAXYS™ wave buoy data. After a thorough evaluation of TRIAXYS Directional Wave Buoy the directional wave buoy marketplace, the Italian government chose to replace its existing buoy network with 21 TRIAXYS™ Directional wave buoys. TRIAXYS™ buoys were chosen because of their excellent solid-state sensors, solar power, ease of handling, data logging capacity, Watchcircle Alarm service, and superior customer support. In the Fall of 2001, the first of these 21 buoys were shipped and consequently deployed off various parts of the Italian coastline (see map below). As part of the support, AXYS modified its existing technology to meet the needs of the Italian government.

Wave data from the Italian TRIAXYS™ buoys is transmitted every half an hour from each of the 15 coastal stations. The wave data is sent ashore via VHF telemetry and this data is used by a wide variety of groups including port authorities, fishing fleets, marine weather forecasters, and coastal zone managers to name a Italian Directional Wave Buoy Networkfew. Local support is provided by AXYS Italian agent Envirtech. This network represents the first real time updated network in the Mediterranean Sea.

Today, AXYS continues to partner with the Italian buoy network stakeholders to provide highly reliable equipment and technical advice and support.
