Naval Oceanographic Office Water Level Monitoring Buoy

AXYS Technologies, an environmental monitoring company located in Sidney, B.C., Canada, has recently received an order through NavCom Technology Inc. of Torrance, California to provide the Naval Oceanographic Office with high precision water level monitoring buoys using RTK-StarFire™ GPS technology. The buoys are being provided under a contract from the Naval Oceanographic Office held by ITS Corporation of Oxnard, California.

The TRIAXYS GPS Buoy, using a Navcom GPS receiver, will be used to provide real-time, accurate water elevation data by means of acquiring GPS elevation correction data, applying the Solid Earth Tide Corrections within the GPS receiver, and providing this data at configurable intervals to NAVOCEANO. This data will be provided over a satellite data link and will be logged internally in real-time for the duration of any data collection period. TRIAXYS GPS Buoy motion data will also be acquired and logged in real-time to allow post processing of the data for further analysis of the measured water level data.

The TRIAXYS GPS Buoy will provide the ability to measure the water level in any climate and location in the world that allows the moorage of a 1-meter measurement buoy. The buoy is compliant with Coast Guard, navigation and operational safety regulations.

"We're pleased to build water level monitoring capability provided by NavCom into our proven TRIAXYS wave and motion monitoring platform. We believe this capability will allow us to enter new marine monitoring markets such as tsunami detection in the future," said Don Bryan, Manager, Marine Systems Sales & Marketing for AXYS."

The first set of GPS buoys will be delivered to NAVOCEANO in March 2005.
