AXYS among high-tech top 25

AXYS Technologies Inc (AXYS) has been named among the largest 25 technology companies headquartered on Vancouver Island.

The Vancouver Island Advanced Technology Centre yesterday released its annual top-25 list of companies based on revenue, with the combined revenues adding up to nearly $800 million, an increase of more than $230 million from 2005.

"You could say we were pleasantly surprised," said VIATeC executive director Dann Gunn. "When you work closely with tech companies you have an idea of the great things they are doing, and you're always wondering when you will see the empirical evidence that shows it's working -- this is obviously a quantum leap forward for us. It says we're reaching a critical mass and we are going to be one of the thriving tech regions in Canada and hopefully one day in the world," he said. "When you see companies employing multi-hundreds of people and doing multi-hundreds of millions [in revenue] it changes the sophistication level and awareness level of all the other companies of what's possible and, more importantly, how to get there."

This is the second consecutive year that AXYS has achieved this recognition as it continues to perform and contribute to the Vancouver Island high-tech sector.

Darren Stone, Times Colonist / Some of the VIATeC Top 25, left to right, are Craig Thomson (Beanstream), Mark Grambart (Contech Electronics), Dan Gunn (VIATeC), Dan Wall (Schneider Electric), Craig Williams (FTS), David Davies (Carmanah), Hannes Blum (Abebooks.com) and Harry Weiler (AXYS Technologies).
